Dr. Rhonda Robinson Beale is a seasoned health care executive with more than 30 years of experience in health care systems, managed care, and quality improvement in behavioral health and medical care. She is the deputy chief medical officer for mental health services within UnitedHealth Group. Dr. Robinson Beale has also served as senior vice president and chief medical officer for Blue Cross of Idaho and for several other large national and local health care organizations, including Optum, PacifiCare, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Health Alliance Plan in Michigan. As a subject matter expert, she has been involved with many national organizations, including NIH, the National Institute of Mental Health, the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the National Quality Forum, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
Dr. Robinson Beale has served on many national boards, engaged with key committees and work groups, and been significantly involved in influencing changes in the system. She was on the IOM committee that produced Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health System for the 21st Century and To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System. Dr. Robinson Beale has been involved in influencing local and national legislation, particularly around parity and Affordable Care Act issues, and she has testified before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee on the state of behavioral health care.
