Dr. Brilliant is the PI for All of Us, Wisconsin. He is a senior research scientist with more than 30 years of experience in genetic research. He is the James Weber Endowed Chair at Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, where he is also Director of the Center for Human Genetics and the Personalized Medicine Research Project (PMRP), a research cohort of more than 20,000 individuals with long-term (30 years, on average) electronic health records combined with a biobank of DNA, plasma, and serum samples.
Dr. Brilliant holds academic appointments at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. At the Marshfield Clinic, he has instituted one of the first clinical translational personalized medicine programs to identify patients at risk for being prescribed specific drugs (simvastatin, clopidogrel, and warfarin) and test those patients for common variants before they are prescribed these drugs, along with the implementation of clinical decision support tools that alert physicians to potential adverse events when the prescription is ordered.
While at the University of Arizona, Dr. Brilliant organized an outreach/educational program on the Navajo reservation on the topic of genetics and organized a forum for Native Americans to discuss their views on genetic research at a meeting of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. He has trained two Native Americans with Ph.D.s in genetics.
