Larry Breindel (he/him) has been involved in scientific and biomedical projects for 50 years. His initial work involved studies of the neurological basis of sleep and dreaming. While doing research at Columbia Presbyterian, Larry developed a neuro-ophthalmology tool to manage the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and helped design validation techniques in nuclear medical imaging. As a member of the Brown University research staff, he created climatology tools that are still in use at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). After leaving Brown, Larry stayed in Providence to set up a million-patient registry for the National Perinatal Information Center. Since 2014, he has been doing scholarship oversight and statistical mentoring at the Center for Children with Special Needs at Tufts Children’s Hospital in Boston.
For the last several years, Larry has been proud to serve as the Weill Cornell representative to the Participant and Community Advisory Board of All of Us. He is also a member of an advisory board of the Clinical & Translational Science Center at Weill Cornell Medicine, where his work includes grant application review. He recently joined the steering committee of a project at Montefiore Medical Center to address vaccine hesitancy.
Larry enjoys performing opera as well as doing woodwork and ornamental brickwork in his garden. He is a New York City native with ties to the Lake District in the United Kingdom.
