Adriana C. Mares (she/her/ella) is a student researcher at Yale Medicine and aspires to pursue a career in academia with a focus on structural and congenital heart disease intervention while integrating precision medicine into her future medical practice. In 2020, she received her master of science in public health and biological sciences on a full-ride scholarship through the Terry Foundation, received the University of Texas at El Paso’s Academic & Research Excellence Award, and was named a Top Ten Senior.
In conjunction with her studies, Adriana is founder and President of the Institute of Cardiology at El Paso (ICEP), co-chair of the American College of Cardiology Medical Student Leadership Group, and committee member of her local American Heart Association chapter and pulmonary hypertension support group (El Paso PHighters Support Group). She is a keen researcher with more than 20 published articles/abstracts and is recognized for her research pertaining to cardiovascular medicine and genomics.
Since 2018, Adriana has supported the All of Us Research Program, informing her community about the program as an ambassador to recruit participants and ensure Hispanic representation. Her leadership in medical and community organizations has facilitated bilingual recruitment outreach among college students, older adults, and medical professionals. As an All of Us scholar, she delved into the program’s data, collaborated with researchers, and presented at the inaugural NIH Minority Student Research Symposium. Adriana sees her involvement as a social responsibility to help address gaps in minority population health research.
